About Chest Research Foundation

Chest Research Foundation (CRF) was set up in November 2002 by Cipla Ltd. CRF became an independent autonomous academic research institute in 2005 and subsequently a Division of Hamied Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust, in 2011.
Obstructive airways diseases are holding sway thanks to rapid urbanisation, the pressures of modern living and sheer ignorance! Our doctors need to constantly update their knowledge; people must be made aware.
According to the Ministry of Health, Government of India, India has an estimated 28 million people with asthma and 17 million with COPD. Projected figures for 2016 put the asthma figure at 35 million and COPD at 22 million.
We try to make a difference through research and education.

Objectives

Our mission is liberation of sufferings of the patients of Obstructive Airways Diseases through Research and Education!

Research

Studies on airways diseases in India, especially asthma and COPD, with focus on regional variations and etiological factors Clinical evaluation of drugs for the treatment of these diseases.

Education

  • Updating knowledge and practice of respiratory disease management through certificate courses for physicians
  • Training programmes for technicians and paramedical personnel to improve diagnosis and management of airways diseases
  • Patient education programmes to improve understanding of disease management, overcome stigmas and scale boundaries of language and culture
  • Training modules for postgraduate students.
